Venus in Capricorn and Venus Retrograde
Venus moves from the last degree of tropical Sagittarius to Capricorn on November 5, 2021. She will transit in Capricorn until March 5, 2022. This four month transit is much longer than usual because she will be going backward from December 19, 2021 to January 29, 2022. This retrograde begins at 26º Capricorn and ends at 11º Capricorn.
Venus rules relationships, money, and femininity. She is the planet of unification, reconciliation, quality, love, and worth. Venusian energy is expressed through art, beauty, partnership, and anything pleasing to the senses. Venus is anything we are attracted to or value.
Venus in Capricorn appreciates material achievement, practicality, reliability, and maturity. She is cautious, ambitious, and values stability. Her transit through Capricorn helps us to consider whether our relationships have a solid foundation and if they will stand the test of time. Although it is the holiday season, Venus in Capricorn encourages you to be conservative with your money and spend wisely.
Before the retrograde period, Venus will reach 11º Capricorn on November 17, 2021, and this will start the pre-shadow period. Anything that occurs during the pre-shadow period is subject to review or reversal during the retrograde period. Venus may decide to change her mind about certain things related to things like shopping, aesthetic choices, money matters, and relationships.
An important conjunction happens about a week before she moves retrograde. On December 11, Venus meets up with Pluto, the planet of the underworld. Pluto is a planet that represents death and rebirth. This conjunction occurs at 25º Capricorn. People ruled by Venus and those with placements at 25º of cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) will be impacted by this the most. This conjunction adds intensity, magnetism, and can feature overwhelming obsession. This could be a time of digging deep to uncover hidden truths. You may feel controlled or overcome by powerful forces. The influences of Pluto last a generation. This conjunction occurs three times, twice at the beginning of Venus Retrograde and again at the end. The second conjunction happens on Christmas. Be careful and try not to let Pluto overtake you.
As Venus moves one degree past Pluto, she stops and begins the retrograde period. When moving backwards, Venus is retracing her steps and taking a second look at things. Certain things we once were attracted to may lose their sparkle. Things that once brought you pleasure might become unappealing. This transit is notorious for breakups and refunds. Marriages and relationships that start during this period are not likely to last. Buyers beware when making holiday purchases.
Venus will move direct on January 29, 2022. As Venus makes a second pass through 11º to 26º of Capricorn she will be checking her work and wrapping things up. This is called the post-shadow period and it brings things from the retrograde period to a conclusion. Venus leaves the post-shadow period on March 1, 2022, but she conjoins Pluto a third time with Mars on March 3, 2022.
The last time Venus and Pluto were conjoined in this sign was eight years ago on November 15, 2013 when Pluto was at 9° Capricorn. This was right before Venus retrograded at 28° Capricorn on Dec 21, 2013. Venus stationed direct one degree apart from Pluto at 13° Capricorn on January 31, 2014. Think back to November 2013-January 2014 to see what was going on in your life at the time. Did you notice any intense themes related to relationships, money, or self worth? During this long 2021-2022 transit through Capricorn, Venus hits a sextile to Neptune three times. This can make matters of love and money more complicated and confusing. Neptune blurs reality and brings illusion and delusion. Under the influence of Neptune, we can be over-idealistic, make dangerous sacrifices, and feel addicted. On the flip side, a Neptunian influence is great for fantasy, imagination, creativity, and spirituality.
